Lomellina

Turin, Italy

[2018 – 2021]

Identifying with a specific place and context is the starting point of the project, which encompasses the main inspirations of the surrounding environment, varied and rich in stimuli. The search for a new language for the façade on via Lomellina becomes an opportunity for synthesis and reinterpretation of the urban and architectural context. A residential project that creates a place to feel at home, aimed at fostering the relationship between inhabitants and ensuring a high quality of living.

The intervention of the new residential building reconstructs the missing element in the building line between via Lomellina and via Tonello, currently only suggested by a low brick structure used as a garage. Preserving the existing two levels of parking and maintaining the current Enel cabin position, the living area is articulated in a corner volume of four above-ground floors with a pitched roof and dormers. The architectural composition and material choices allow the intervention to be integrated into the elegant pre-hill context.

The theme of the street-level base is a reinterpretation of surrounding 1950s buildings, in which structures were often elevated on a pilotis floor: the houses are therefore “suspended,” resting and interlocking on the wooden slats that form the base, light and transparent. The corner is designed to be hollowed out on the third and fourth floors with a large green insert, a true internal garden overlooking the apartments; greenery is one of the elements characterizing the street façades, repeated at the volume cuts and on the roof, on the large terraces that interrupt the slope, emphasizing the strong connection with the Turin hillside landscape.

On the ground floor, the corner is similarly hollowed out with the insertion of the large glass walls of the entrance hall. The use of advanced materials and technologies allows alignment with the latest energy-saving and eco-compatibility standards, achieving a building classified as Class A.
